Another quick note on an annoying issue. Let’s say you’re trying to apply some brand new Update Rollup to System center 2012 DPM and the update process always stops in error, if the error code is 8007041d then you’re probably in a situation a colleague of mine get into a few weeks ago. It’s just a timing issue in starting services, if any service takes more than 30″ to start the update fails, even if the service can then start correctly. In this case you need to increase the timeout value for service control manager system wide, modifying the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\ServicesPipeTimeout setting an higher timeout, remember the timeout is in milliseconds, so to set 90″ you must enter 90000.
Here is the error code from the setup log
1: PatchCA: 2: Change service config for dpmwriter succeeded, hr=0
1: PatchCA: 2: Returning from SetServiceStartType 0
1: PatchCA: 2: Start service returned 0
1: PatchCA: 2: start dpmwriter returned hr=8007041d
1: PatchCA: 2: Error in EnableAndStartService. hr=8007041d
1: PatchCA: 2: EnableDpmServices returned hr 0x8007041d
