Notable updates in the last 2 weeks on Azure and the Microsoft cloud, as usual my perspective


Azure Backup Server now supports VMWare backup and protection against ransomware (https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/announcing-vmware-backup-with-azure-backup-server/)
Azure Backup now suports encrypted VMs and the user experience starts diorectly form the VM blade

Log Analytics you can now filter the security events collected even if you cannot go granular (https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/msoms/2016/11/08/filter-the-security-events-the-oms-security-collects/)
While the UI and powershell interfaces are being worked through you can now use the REST API to increase your retention data up to 2 years (https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/msoms/2016/11/15/search-for-up-to-two-years-of-data-with-oms-log-analytics/)

Azure SQL Database

Now supporting up to 10 years of Backup Retention (Public Preview)
In-Memory OLTP in Azure SQL Database Premium is now GA

Azure App Services course available on Microsoft Virtual Academy (https://mva.microsoft.com/en-US/training-courses/deep-dive-into-azure-app-service-a-platform-to-build-modern-applications-16828)

Azure G-Series VMs available in West Europe (and other regions around the world), up to 32 cores and 448GB of RAM. And Azure N-Series VMs will go live on Dec 1st, the N-Series VM are powered by NVIDIA GPUs.
