#Azure notable updates w47

Azure Autoshutdown for VMs in ARM mode, this feature has been a hit for DevTest Labs, now is available for every VM.

Azure functions are GA! This is a nice piece of technology I must investigate further, they can be a valid alternative for automations if the tasks are frequent and relatively short in duration.

Azure VM A-Series v2 now available. These Av2 instances carry the same CPU configurations, but we have raised the amount of RAM per vCPU. We have also improved our local disk random IOPS to be two to ten times faster than the existing A-series.
Plus I completely missed the revamped documentation about VM sizes (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/virtual-machines/virtual-machines-windows-size) now it’s much more complete and makes it easy to compare the different offers.

Azure DevTest Labs now supports custom ARM templates.

Now single instance Azure VM on premium storage are backed by a 99.9% availability SLA.

Hybrid Benefits images are finally available so that you don’t have to build and mantain your own images, search for [HUB] on marketplace.

OMS metric measurement alerts add flexibility to alerts (https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/msoms/2016/11/22/new-metric-measurement-alert-rule-type-in-public-preview/) now this was truly needed: now we can set criteria based on number of breaches or number of consecutive breaches before firing an alert, more an alert is fired for every instance that matches the alert rule.

MSOMS Service Map is now in public preview (https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/msoms/2016/11/21/automatic-dependency-discovery-and-mapping-with-service-map-public-preview/) this is based on the code Microsoft acquired from bluestripe and can really be a game changer not only for you monitoring projects but also for migrations and assessments.
