#Azure and #MSOMS notable updates week 17/17

Azure

Another step away from the “classic portal”, now RMS related technologies are accessible in the new portal. Azure Information Protection Administration
post
. The service is currently in preview.

I missed this one, but finally Citrix XenApp Essentials and XenDesktop Essentials have been released (end of March). For the first time you can legally run Windows 10 on a public cloud provider and XenApp basically replaces the Azure RemoteApp. But not all that glitters is gold, the service is no way cheap, you have two separate entries in your invoice from Microsoft (one for the fabric and CAL/RDS/VDI that can be paid with your usual Azure credits, the other for Citrix services that will be invoiced separately ), you’re responsible for choosing the right VM sizes to support the services, there’s no easy way to get a trial. Plus there’s a cost calculator that needs an engineering degree to tame it. Honestly not very cloud like, the old RemoteApp model was way better.

Azure management libraries for .net are now GA these are new libraries that simplify drastically the way you can create and manage Azure resources from .net code.

OMS

Joins get to Log Analytics query language, this opens a new set of possibilities in correlating different datasets based on single field joins. At this time the first thing that comes to mind is a join on the Computer field. Still limited but useful.

Windows and Linux registry and file tracking for Log Analytics is now GA

New release for OMS Agent for Linux v1.3.4-15 bug fixing for the installer and removal scenarios.

And don’t miss two very interesting posts by Tao:
