#Azure and #MSOMS notable updates week 48/17

Azure

Azure Location Based Services public preview. LBS is a portfolio of geospatial service APIs natively integrated into Azure that enable developers, enterprises and ISVs to create location aware apps and IoT, mobility, logistics and asset tracking solutions.

Azure Migrate, the service aimed at helping the lift & shift of virtual machines running on any on-prem platform to Azure, enters the public preview phase.

OMS

Finally Azure Automation watcher tasks are in public preview. These are jobs/tasks that run continuously waiting for an event and then start a standard runbook in response to that event. They’re only supported for powershell right now and can only run on hybrid workers. Now these are really important to optimize your Azure Automation billing, basically you get 744 hours or 1 watcher task for free every month plus every additional watcher task costs just 1.4€/month. Obviously you’re going to pay for the run time of the runbooks invoked by the watcher task.

You can now ingest Azure Analysis Services log in Log Analytics.

System Center

Operations Manager and Service Manager Authoring Extensions for Visual Studio 2017 released

Update Rollup 14 for System Center 2012 R2 gets on par with UR4 for the 2016 wave, we’re talking TLS 1.2 support and less more:

  • Operations Manager, I think the best you can do is to read *and* follow this post by Kevin.
  • Service Manager UR has been released together with the companion MP.
