Azure AD Managed Service Identity is a new way to gain access to your Azure artifacts without knowing an explicit credential. Basically the platform provides you one using a local endpoint, obviously after you enabled the feature for the “source” artifact. This is a nice way to avoid the use of explicit credentials to connect to azure. The public preview covers:
- Azure Virtual Machines (Windows)
- Azure Virtual Machines (Linux)
- Azure App Service
- Azure Functions

Put simply, confidential computing offers a protection that to date has been missing from public clouds, encryption of data while in use
A new VM family is in preview on Azure. B-series “burstable vms“. These VMs use a credits mechanism that allows to use (burst) CPU based on the idle periods (when they gain credits). They can quickly become a true money saver.
A truly interesting post on Azure messaging services
The CosmosDB team asks for some visibility of their presence at Ignite:
- Azure Function integration with Azure Cosmos DB – With the native integration between Azure Cosmos DB and Azure Functions we are taking serverless to a completely new level. Now you can create database triggers, input bindings, and output bindings directly from your Azure Cosmos DB account against multi-model data and build a variety of real-time and event-driven data processing systems.
- Audit Logging & OMS Integration – Azure Cosmos DB audit logs will now be surfaced thru Azure monitor with tight integration with Blob storage, Events Hub and OMS Log Analytics.
And you can try it for free.
